Let's Discuss: Tamagotchis

So the other day I happened upon seeing new colors of the new Tamagotchi and I can't believe I never talked aka ranted about this here already! I checked and I just saw a few Random Thursday posts about the beloved toy of my youth!

New Tamagotchi

I'm not sure how many of you might remember the Tamagotchi of the 90s! It was a pretty spiffy little toy! It was egg-shaped and was basically a little alien dude that you were supposed to take care of.

You would feed it, clean up after it, play games with it so that it would be happy. It would continue to grow and eventually, he'd leave and go back to his home planet. And then you would press the reset button in back and do it all over again! Lol. It was simple, but fun. You wanted to keep the alien happy as he did have happy and health meters along with his hunger one.

Then just last Christmas, they announced the Tamagotchi would return! In a new smaller size too! And I was elated! I thought this was one of the cooler toys I had growing up and I planned on buying my niece one for Christmas and then I bought myself one too. 

It was literally the day I got them that for whatever reason had checked the review page from where I bought them and my heart stopped cold. This was NOT the toy of my childhood. Yes you are still caring for an alien. You would feed it and clean up after it, but that was it. There was no game to play, no happiness you needed to maintain. Just a simple feed it, clean up after it, and turn its light off when its asleep. Nothing more.

I was pretty ticked off after that and returned the unopened Tamagotchis immediately. Because seriously, who wants a virtual pet that all you do is feed and clean up after it? There were no happiness meters that needed to be considered or anything. I was pretty shocked that the toy was still selling since you can't do anything with the virtual pet.

I did discover an app that lets you have a Tamagotchi the old fashion way. And I believe I even had a Gameboy Game of it too. So I can still have my nostalgia with it, but I had really wanted to get this for my niece because I think she would've liked it! My sister and I loved ours and if I could find a small enough screwdriver I so would've replaced the battery but either there's no screwdriver small enough or the tiny little screw might even be corroded and can't be open. Because yes, I do still have my dead little Tamagotchi egg. I couldn't bare to get rid of it! Lol.


So does anyone else remember the original Tamagotchi? Do you have thoughts on the new one that was sort of less improved, in my opinion.
