Review--Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer

When Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemies, she’s certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer—one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack—and the man—she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.

Andrea Cremer's Wolfsbane was a terrific read! Picking up immediately where we left off in Nightshade it took  me a bit to catch up with what had passed since I read Nightshade ages and ages ago. But I managed!

The world building in this novel is pretty complex, not overly so, but more than I'm used to. There is a whole set of rules to learn about regarding the different groups there are, being the second book in the series I was able to comprehend it a bit more, but there were still a few moments and references that did cause me to pause and think for a bit.

Regardless this was still an interesting read. Not much time has passed for Calla and now that she's teaming up with her once enemy--the Searchers, she is willing to do whatever it takes to rescue her pack that she had to leave behind in order to save Shay's life. But she doesn't realize how dangerous this mission will be.

Calla is also still struggling to deal with her conflicting emotions when it comes to Shay and Ren. For we know that's our love triangle. She admits to having strong feelings for Shay, yet she still can't help thinking about Ren. Ren was her chosen mate and there was a spark between them despite their relationship being forced upon them.

We also meet a new cast of characters within the Searchers! My fave was Conner, he was the smart mouthed one who was pretty much always sarcastic, but could be serious if the situation called for it.

The book had a lot of heartache and surprises! The surprises tended to be quite shocking and earth rocking for Calla. They definitely change how Calla sees things once again. And naturally, there was a cliffhanger ending. But to be fair it's more of a pause in action, for Calla was just about to do something very sneaky, before the final page came about.

Now it's just an agonizing wait til February 21, 2012 for Bloodrose for the epic conclusion!

Overall rating 4/5 stars

  1. I've been trying to decide whether to pick up Nightshade because I've seen such mixed reviews. And I sort of loath love triangles. WHY are there always love triangles?? But if it has a nice complex world and a decent plot, it might be worth trying.
