Let's Discuss: Binge Reading

Let's discuss binge reading! It was an idea that flitted through my head the other day and I thought it would be a good discussion topic because there's a good amount of positives and negatives to it!

Binge Reading

The Positives:

  • No waiting between books!
  • No faulty memory issues between books
  • Enjoy the series/story straight through

The Negatives:

  • Having to wait for all the books to be out
  • Subjecting yourself to possibly spoilers because of that waiting
  • Missing out on a series everyone might be talking about

That's about the gist of it for me! In the long run, I think binge reading is a great idea! I just don't always get to engage in it because I occasionally get to review the first book or whatever and of course I want to read it asap! This has happened a lot with duologies for me lately! I received the first book to review but was denied the second book. So basically I suffered because of all that waiting I was forced to do! And even now that a few of those duologies have released, I still haven't read them because of time constraints!

I rather think binge reading is an excellent idea. Though I know it could possibly hurt the author by not having reviews out, I'm one to buy the books as they release, I just don't read them at that time. I'd rather binge read a series any day because then my poor addled mind wouldn't struggle to remember things from a year or likely MORE than a year ago! Lol.

How do you feel about binge reading? Do you do it? Like it?

  1. I like to binge read series but there are some books I can't wait for all of them to be out. Usually, I'll binge a series that I was on the fence about. Like I wanted to read it but I wasn't desperate for it. So I wait for all the books to come out, here what people have to say about them (avoiding spoilers when possible) and then go through all the books. I actually prefer to binge books as audiobooks now, it's really pleasant.

    Great post, thanks for sharing!

  2. I have the same positive and negative points as yours. Though most often, I read the first book first then wait for the other books to be out. When they're all out, I just reread the first book then binge read the rest.

  3. Jessica I love binge reading and to be honest, it's rare for me to read a first book until the series is complete as I heavily dislike the wait.

Having said that I have got so many books that need binge reading.

  4. My binge reading tends to be binge rereading. I couldn’t wait for the whole series before starting! And sometimes the series doesn’t finish. Or keeps going and going... But as a writer myself, I can tell you thst when someone discovers one of my books and reviews it after a long time, it’s nice, not horrible. It gives the book a new lease of life and means more readers hear about it. Publishers don’t bother with your book promotion after it comes out.

  5. I think binge reading is a great idea too! Mostly because if I don't read the next book in a series immediately after, I'll forget everything that happened, even if I enjoyed the book. I find that if I read one book, and then don't read the next immediately, I won't read it for ages. I generally lose my excitement for it.
    Great post! :)

  6. I totally agree with this assessment. Binge reading is perfect, when you can manage it, but I don't always want to wait!
