Review--Flutter by Amanda Hocking

Flutter - the third book in the My Blood Approves series...

Being undead doesn't make life any easier for Alice Bonham.

Her younger brother's love life is heating up, while hers is... more complicated. Mae is falling apart, her best friend Jane is addicted to vampire bites, and if Alice doesn't get her bloodlust under control, someone will end up dead.

Alice volunteers for a rescue mission with Ezra. But going up against a pack of rabid vampires might be too much, even for him.

Spoilers from previous books in the series

Amanda Hocking's Flutter continues the story of Alice Bonham and her life with her "adopted" vampire family and boyfriend, Jack. Alice is now a vampire after Jack turned her last time around and it's taking quite a bit of adjusting to the new lifestyle.

Learning to maintain control of herself is only the beginning of Alice's problems. Peter has been away for a long time and now there's word he's killed a vampire in Finland, so Ezra and Alice rush off to rescue him. But what they find is troubling. There is a group of vampires known as lycans--weird, yes, but they aren't werewolves--and they are basically a sort of feral vampire and very, very dangerous.

After much struggles and difficulties, they manage to rescue Peter and bring him home, but all is not happy after that. Milo has a new boyfriend and Alice cannot help but be suspicious of him. I thought her automatic suspicion was a little uncalled for. Just because her brother has someone in his life, doesn't mean that the guy is bad news. But her constant pondering over it, did make me wonder if there was something to be suspicious of this guy, so kudos to Amanda for that!

Then there's also a tiff going on between Ezra and Mae. Mae wants to turn a particular someone into a vampire and Ezra disagrees with her decision, it was quite the argument and blowout. There's a thick tension between the two for the majority of the last half of the book.

Then of course comes the love triangle, the messiest of love triangles I have ever read. Alice continues to say she loves Jack. She wants to be with Jack. Jack and her are a sure thing. Jack turned her after all and the bond she felt with Peter supposedly broke, but apparently there are still some lingering feelings between the two because there is still quite the bit of tension going on around them.

And finally, there's Jane's addiction to being bitten. Ever since Milo bit her in the last book, she's gotten addicted to the experience and if she doesn't curb this addiction soon, she'll die.

Amanda never ceases to amaze me with just how much she can pack into these books! True, they were her self-published variety, but they are still very entertaining! I find myself constantly debating over who Alice should choose. I see why she wants Jack, but I have a definite soft spot for Peter for reasons I cannot even begin to explain!

The pacing was like the previous ones. Sort of moderate. It's hard to know exactly why Alice will be dealing with in these books as the cover description does give you some idea, but then so much more happens around that event. There's a lot of smaller occurrences that impact the larger ones that it's just a whirlwind of a ride!

Now I'm off to read book 4, Wisdom, and I am so, so hoping it ends nicely because as I mentioned before, I have my doubts that Amanda will finish this series as these books were written in 2010 and here we are three years later with still no book 5.
