New York Times bestselling author Keri Arthur returns to the enthralling Guardian World—and a twilight realm of danger and desire…
Risa Jones, half-Aedh/half-werewolf, can enter the realm between life and death. She can speak to the dying and the dead, and she can see the reapers, collectors of souls. What she can not yet see is the identity of a stranger murdering women and draining their blood. Now Risa must summon her gifts to find him, even if it means putting her own life in danger. But Risa needn’t look far. The killer knows who she is.
He tells her his victims are infected by darkness and he’s fated to destroy them. Fascinated by Risa, he engages her in a sinister game: the chance to save the life of his next victim by deciphering his series of clues. In a race against time, she enlists the help of the reaper Azriel.
But as an attraction between them grows, so does the fear that the stranger’s motives are only part of a larger, more dangerous stratagem—one that that has lured Risa and Azriel into the dark.
Yay! I'm practically caught up in this series! Just one more to go! Keri Arthur's Darkness Hunts was yet another thrilling and fast paced read! So much goes on throughout these novels that it's hard to remember absolutely everything by the end. Thank goodness for recaps in the next installments!
Once again Risa has to take a break from finding the remaining keys that will lock heaven and hell. She was trying to make progress in that by talking to a spirit of one who died last book go around on the astral plane and that's when she stumbles upon her next case. A serial killer who is killing female vampires. And for some reason, Risa has caught his eye and he wants to play games. Fun, right?
Risa is pure of heart and will do whatever it takes to protect innocents, even the vampire kind. But this guy is a real doozie of a killer who likes to play by his own rules.
Things continue to get complicated in Risa's life. Her love life is still up in the air as she dates Lucian--ie: sleeps with him--and continues to have strong feelings for Azriel who continues to deny a relationship between them despite everything. And of course there's still Jak, although I don't think he's a strong contender for Risa's heart but he continues to remain in her life for the time being and continue the task that was started last time around, which essentially ties back to finding those keys.
Risa is also trying to deal with the thing that the Raziq wove into her heart that will lead them to her father when he contacts her next and when that does happen, things get crazy and winds up with more problems when things go south for the Raziq.
These books tend to be a whirlwind of events and action coupled with romance that they are an insanely delightful read! As I said, it's hard to touch base on details, because so many main details happen that continue to lead to further events that will continue playing a part in Risa's ever-so-delightful life*! *Note that in this case ever-so-delightful life means filled with craptastic events! Poor Risa definitely needs a break, but she's not likely to get one anytime soon.
I was most happy to see Riley appear in this book this time around, as well as Rhoan and Quinn! A three for one deal! Huzzah!
The romance, as always, was fabulous! Things continue to be hot and heavy with Risa and Lucian, much to Azriel's dismay, but hey, he knows what he needs to do to fix that. But there might be trouble in paradise with Lucian who is starting to show his true colors and it's not pleasing.
Keri Arthur writes yet another action-packed read that takes Risa on a whirlwind of craziness! This poor girl hardly ever gets a full eight hours of sleep, yet she's always up and atta em! Nothing will stop a determined Risa, so bad guys beware!
