Review--One Bite with a Stranger by Christine Warren

When Regina’s friends insist on setting her up a “Fantasy Fix” to help her get over her cheating ex, she dreams up some kinky out-of-this-world encounters that they could never possibly bring to life. But the next thing Regina knows, her friends have got her laced into a shiny black corset, tight leather pants, and a sexy pair of stilettos. It’s time for some downtown vampire-fantasy fun. . . .

The Vampire Ball in Manhattan’s East Village isn’t really Dmitri Vidâme’s idea of a good time, but as a member of the Council that governs the Others, he has to keep an eye on all the young vamps who prey on the pretenders. After he feasts his dark eyes on fiery Regina at the bar, he knows that he must have her. But for the first time Dmitri meets a woman who is more than a match for his indomitable will. And he may be the fantasy Regina hoped for… until she—and her feisty friends—discover her sexy new lover’s bloodsucking secret…

Finally started Christine Warren's The Others series, starting with One Bite with a Stranger! It's definitely more of a paranormal romance than an urban fantasy. But it was still pretty entertaining. I would've like a little more action, but the romance was the focus point. So it was a nice read for being something different from my norm.

Reggie's friends have decided to give her a Fantasy Fix. She writes out five fantasies and they will pick one and do what they can to find the perfect man to act out the fantasies with. Reggie isn't overly thrilled with the idea. Having gotten out of a serious relationship just a few months ago, she's not looking for a one night stand. If anything she wants something a little more serious. So she creates idiotic fantasies, but little does she know her friends have one up on her and decide to make her date with a vampire fantasy real! Sort of, by taking her to The Vampire Ball where "vampires" gather for a good time.

Little does Reggie know that she's going to meet the only real vampire at the party! Dmitri is unlike any man she has ever met. Sexy, confident and he seems to know exactly what she wants. Their relationship gets pretty serious rather quickly. And yet the whole time, Dmitri is able to keep his secret, that he is a bona fide vampire, from her.

What drew me to start this series is that the books appear to have different characters, much like Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series. As you know, I am an aspiring writer myself and I see my series being something like this where I have different narrators for the books. With returning characters of course. So I decided to read this series as "research". Yet it was still very fun to read!

The romance between Reggie and Dmitri is hot and steamy and fast! Sure, I like more buildup to my romances rather than the quick fall in love after a bout of sex, but it was still an entertaining story. Reggie's world is about to change greatly. There's also a bit of mystery behind the love story in that new vampires are turning up, there are dead bodies about and Dmitri has a mystery to solve all while keeping Reggie satisfied and oblivious to his secrets.

The ending was happy and satisfying. Naturally there is a big reveal to Reggie about vampires and what all since we get to be in both Reggie and Dmitri's heads in third person, we know right away that Dmitri is a vampire and a real one at that! I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this series to see if the other characters I met will have their turn in the spotlight!

Overall rating 3.5/5 stars
