Review--Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

This book rocked! Can't believe I took so long to read it! I've had Jennifer Armentrout's Obsidian on my Kindle for awhile, it's actually the older edition with this cover too! And it was awesome! Major Kudos to Jennifer for making Katy a blogger! That is what everyone has been talking about and I loved it! She did her research with the memes too! It was brilliantly done!

Katy is by far my favorite YA heroine now I believe! She reminded me a lot like myself in high school. Her attitude and all that. I myself got into verbal spars with guys. Unfortunately, they were nothing like Daemon! Not even boyfriend worthy, but I just loved that about Katy! Her reactions were probably like mine too. The heated cheeks when she was angry! Mine do that a lot! In fact my cheeks are nearly naturally red like all the time!

And if Katy was awesome, Daemon was infuriating! But yeah, he made me laugh too. And he's hot! Our cover model here does an excellent job of giving us an ideal Daemon and I love that! I think I would be verbally sparring with Daemon like Katy did too!

Katy is the new girl and Daemon and his twin sister Dee are her neighbors. Dee is the friendly one, Daemon is the ass--much like my teaser showed us! But Dee and Daemon are not normal, they are aliens! Hello, Roswell! But nope, they are in West Virginia. Who knew?! Dee wants very much to have a normal life and Katy is someone she wants to be friends with, although brother Daemon doesn't approve.

It takes nearly half the book before the big secret is revealed, but there are hints along the way that show us how special Daemon and Dee are. There are even other aliens in town, teenagers as well. And there's also the big bad aliens who basically want to kill our beloved good guys to steal their powers. We do get the backstory about these aliens from Daemon later on and it really sets up the story for us!

My favorite part of the novel was when in a heated moment at lunch at school, Daemon is an ass--he even admits this later in the special chapters from his pov at the end of the book--where Katy essentially dumps her lunch of spaghetti over his head and the nasty girl, Ash as well, for it was Ash who was being bitchy too. They were shocked nonetheless that Katy did something so bold! I rooted for her! I did something similar in high school as well honestly! Although it wasn't spaghetti, but gum, in the guy's hair which was long. He was being an ass, had gotten nacho cheese over my shirt so I had to retaliate! Ahh, memories!

This is definitely a series I need to read more of! Katy is seriously the coolest ever! She fights back with her own attitude, a near match for Daemon's snark! She's a book blogger--gotta love that! And she's real. She kind of debates things with herself at moments as well, like regretting the spaghetti incidence, although I didn't really regret my gum incidence! But she was just awesome!

There was constant tension and attraction between Daemon and Katy throughout the novel! It was pretty heated! I seriously can't remember the YA books I read when I was a teenager being this awesome! They were never this steamy either! There were some heated moments!! And the ending was a shocker too! I wasn't expecting what Jennifer threw at us, but I loved it! I loved Katy for it too!

The ending action was deeply intense. Like I said, the bad guy aliens are in town too. And they want Daemon and Dee and their friends too for their powers. Daemon makes it abundantly clear the whole novel, he's going to do what he has to do to protect his sister, his only family he has left. And that's part of why he wants Katy out of the picture, but he can't seem to stay away from her no more than she from him. There were a few other incidences in the beginning of the novel too, but it wasn't til the third one that he and Dee tell her who they really are.

Overall this was a helluva book! Like Katy, I am excited while writing this review! Seriously! She's a book blogger!! I loved it from beginning to end and had me several lols! I soooo cannot wait to read the next one. Just gotta buy it now! Obsidian nearly tops Roswell for me, which was my fave TV series to watch, and only one that featured aliens as well! Obsidian was incredible!
