Mini Review--In Bad Spirits by Chris Marie Green

In Bad Spirits, A Dawn Madison Novella, reboots the Vampire Babylon series with an entirely new adventure featuring paranormal mayhem and action beyond the realm of bloodsuckers! This is the second stand-alone novella, reissued from the retired 2012 anthology Strange Spirits.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—the holiday season. But when a mysterious entity stalks one of the monster hunters on Dawn Madison’s team, she learns that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned...

Chris Marie Green's In Bad Spirits is yet another novella in the Vampire Babylon series. It takes place during the holidays, a few months after Raising the Darkness.

Dawn's father is still ill and getting worse, Bresi is fading with him. His time is limited. Also in part, Dawn, Jonah, Costin along with her father and Bresi are running from the group from last time that wanted to raise the dragon from Dawn. So they gang is spending the holidays with her grandparents, while Kiko remains in California with his wife.

This time around, the trouble comes from Kalin. The ultimate woman scorned. Of course, she's a spirit, so it makes things a little more complicated. She's been in love with Jonah for years, yet he loves Dawn. The most complicated love triangle ever, considering Dawn doesn't love him but Costin.

To teach Jonah a lesson about love, Kalin attacks a woman he slept with recently. The Dawn and Jonah investigate and soon learn it is Kalin up to no good and rush to find her. But then another woman is attacked. This time it's not someone Jonah knew or slept with, just a random woman...who happens to look like Dawn.

This story was quite a rush! And I don't mean it was rushed but it was a rush! A whirlwind of a mystery in only few days as Dawn and her crew try to find Kalin before she goes totally over the edge and during the holidays too. Try keeping that secret from the grand's! It ain't easy, that's for sure!

The ending to this one was shocking! I wasn't expecting this kind of thing to happen, but perhaps I should've. Overall it was yet another enjoyable read that I was happy to have more of from the Vampire Babylon world!

Overall Rating 4.5/5 stars

  1. I love reading novellas in series I enjoy, and I can see that you do as well! Isn't it great when we get a little more information about a character, a background or something that happened in the novels?

Great review, Jessica :) Have a terrific Thursday!
