Review--Oath Bound by Rachel Vincent

The Tower Syndicate will fall...

The secret daughter of the head of an infamous Skilled crime family, Sera Brandt has hidden her past, her potential and especially her powers. But when a tragedy strikes her other family, Sera needs justice. And the only way to get it is to reveal her heritage–including a rare Skill–and take the reins of the Tower Syndicate from her cunning and malicious aunt.

If he can figure out how...

Kristopher Daniels might have the answer. He's fought the syndicate to protect his sisters, but he'd never realized just how close to the new heir he needed to get....

And if they can survive

Neither is used to trusting. But there's something between them that can't be ignored. And so Sera is on the run with a man she can't figure out, a target on her back and the new knowledge of just how powerful she really is....

Finally read Rachel Vincent's Oath Bound, the conclusion to her Unbound trilogy and it was freaking awesome! I enjoyed getting Kris's story and of course Sera herself. She was pretty awesome too.

Sera comes to Julia Tower, who is now in charge of Jake's business, holding all the contracts and whatall. Sera's family had been brutally murdered and she wants justice. She wants the murdered found and killed. Her leverage in this proposition is that she is Jake Tower's illegitimate daughter. But before much of a bargain can be made she is grabbed--not kidnapped--and taken by Kris Daniels when he came to the Tower household looking for his sister who had been kidnapped by the Towers.

I have to admit, it was quite funny to listen to Kris tell Sera he didn't kidnap her, merely absconded with her. Kris ended up taking her because of his long ago girlfriend's prediction that she said in her sleep at night. She said to take the girl in the yellow scarf. And Sera happened to be wearing said scarf that day and Kris acted on instinct. Of course it takes awhile for Sera to learn this from him. In the meantime, there's a lot of smacking and hitting going on!

Kris and his sisters, Kori and and Kenley are working to free all the Tower employees from their contracts that Kenley had a forced part in. All Sera wants is to find the man who killed her family. All the Daniels want is to get their sister back...and take out Julia Tower as well. Pretty soon an alliance is formed between Sera and the Daniels siblings.

I loved the romance between Kris and Sera. Kris feels like he knows Sera a bit since his old girlfriend's nightly ramblings. Sera comes up a bit. Sera on the other hand, isn't too fond of Kris right away--yay no insta love! But it's obvious from the start that these two will wind up together and I loved that it took quite awhile for it to actually happened. Kris and Sera both have their pasts and things that hold them back from fully committing to a relationship, but against the odds they find a way to make it work. And really, that's no spoiler because it's pretty obvious that the book's gotta end with the hero and heroine together.

Once again Rachel writes the story through both Kris and Sera's point of view! And I gotta give her kudos to writing Kris' point of view so nicely! As an aspiring author myself, I have yet to venture to writing in the male point of view because I find it a bit too challenging just now. How can you write him to be manly and not wussy? Obviously, you need a guy at your side to give you feedback and being single right now kind of makes that even harder to do myself! But anyways....gotta love Kris! And since it's been too many books since I read the last two novels in this trilogy, I gotta say Kris is my favorite! Of course I loved seeing Kori, Ian, Liz and Cam all back in the picture again!

And OOOOOOMG, can I say that I love love love, Kris, Kori and Kenley's grandma?! That little old lady is freaking hilarious! She has a bit of Alzheimer, but sometimes it is hard to tell when she might be losing it or being serious. She's quite funny too! The things she says and do are just laugh out loud funny! I gotta say other than our hero and heroine who I usually love by proxy, Gran is definitely my favorite secondary character!

The action in this one was pretty awesome! Sera learns quite a bit about herself, things she never knew possible. Things that might be quite the game changer in this complicated world.  I like how Rachel ended this trilogy, it has enough of an ending to leave us satisfied, and yet there's still enough issues left over that she could always return to the world if she so chose to! And that is what I think is a good series ender. One that leaves you satisfied, but yet, always leaves the possibility for more. Even if it is a novella! Who knows! Ending word, Oath Bound was purely phenomenal!
