"Back home her dad has disappeared into what he deemed the study, no doubt arranging his over-the-top collection of books (he had over a thousand of them and hadn't been willing to toss even one, much to her mom's despair) in alphabetical order on the sagging, built-in shelves. An obsession with their books was one of the things Maggie and her dad had in common." Kindle location 6%*

This week's topic is: Top Ten "Gateway" Books/Authors In My Reading Journey
(so your list could be a mix of a books that got you into reading, an
author that got you into reading a genre you never thought you'd read, a
book that brought you BACK into read)
*in no particular order
1. Demon in My View by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes--my first vampire book, but certainly not the last!
2. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead--the book that brought me back to YA after a dry spell, this was around the time Paranormal YA was in its beginning stages and right before book 4 published
3. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder--my first fantasy-esque book and oh how I LOVED it!
4. Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling--my first book with a boy as the main character
5. Intertwined by Gena Showalter--another first with a male protagonist, this time in the paranormal genre!
6. Stray by Rachel Vincent--one of the first books I bought from the romance section at Borders and learned that they just shelve random UF books there!
7. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa--among the first books I won! Those first wins included books 1 & 2 of Julie's series and books 1 & 2 of Gena Showalter's Intertwined series!
8. Low Red Moon by Ivy Devlin--first ARC received from a blogging pal! Still upset that the sequel always got pushed back and still doesn't seem to be available
9. Spy Glass by Maria V. Snyder--first ARC received from the author!
10. Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison--one of my first adult paranormal reads! (although technically I started reading book 2, got a couple of pages in before realizing I was missing a whole book's worth of info!)
Once again, I'll remind you to check out my contest to win one of Maria V. Snyder's books SIGNED!! Click here to enter.
Over-the-top collection of books. Sorry, I'm not familiar with this term. To me, you can never have to many books. Lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat tease, Jessica.
Thanks for sharing.
I like your teaser, Jessica!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Stray is a wonderful book and Shifters one of my fave series ever <3
Here's my TT!
I bet the story ends on a sad note.

My Teaser Tuesday
Juli @ Universe in Words
Wonderful teaser. Is there such a thing as too many books?
ReplyDeleteMy daughter really wants to read Vampire Academy. I've never read a Harry Potter book, but I know I will eventually try one out. I have this crazy thing about not reading wildly popular books.
Thanks for visiting The Book Connection.
LOVE Vampire Academy and Intertwined. Gena Showalter books definitely got me into reading. great list! :)
ReplyDeletehere's our TTT
Janhvi @ The Readdicts
I never understand why they put random Urban Fantasy with romance haha but at least it led you to Stray! And VA is a popular pick I'm noticing, I'm so backwards with that series, I wouldn't read it for the longest time until I finally did and fell in love. Great list!
ReplyDeleteTeresa @ Readers Live A Thousand Lives
Yay for Harry Potter! and I loved Iron King as well. Thanks for stopping by my blog
ReplyDeleteI am not to see Harry Potter on so many lists, but it still makes me happy!
ReplyDeleteReading is a great thing for father and daughter to share. This sounds like a book I'd like.
ReplyDeleteMy Teaser is from WITHOUT A TRACE.
I've read Iron King and I really want to continue with the series, but I just can't seem to get on with it. :/ Great list! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to throw away books. I use paperback swap and bookcrossing to get rid of books I no longer want.
ReplyDeleteGreat list! and *GASP* your so right about Low Red Moon! Are they not coming out with a sequel?? Hmmmmm......
ReplyDeleteCheck out my TTT! Thanks for sharing ♥
Michelle ~ Book Hangovers Blabs Books
Love Poison Study, Vampire Academy, and Iron Fey!! I have Stray and Dead Witch Walking on my TBR shelf. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteA nice teaser.
ReplyDeleteNice teaser. The Vanishing Season is on my review stack too. Thanks for visiting my blogs. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser, Jessica! Mine: The Perfect Hope
ReplyDeleteGreat list! Harry Potter is of course a wonderful choice. I considered putting my first ARC (but I haven't read it yet) and the first book you won is another great idea! Also love the teaser, The Vanishing Season sounds really good. There seems like a lot of great YA mysteries lately! Can't wait to read your review.
ReplyDeleteCassi @ My Thoughts Literally
I haven't read The Vampire Academy series yet.....but I do love the Iron Fey series!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TTT!
Em @ http://theyabookbutterfly.blogspot.com/
Nice list!
ReplyDeleteI've only read one of the books on this list and thats Harry Potter(Isn't it always HP?) I may have to look into some of these. I have been wanting to read Vampire Academy for a while now but it sounds pretty cheesy so Im not sure whether to.
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh! The new blog design looks great! I haven't been around for a while, so this was quite the surprise.
ReplyDeleteI love that you have Amelia Atwater-Rhodes and Maria V. Snyder on your list. I read AMW's books when I was in high school and recently became a huge fan of Snyder's. This is a fabulous list! Thanks for stopping by.
Yay Harry and The Iron King - I must admit I haven't read any of the others but I do love those two series. Hope you have a great Tuesday :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that teaser about the books! So great! Great list as well. Gotta love our Boy Wizard! Happy Tuesday, Jessica! :D
ReplyDeleteYou've got some great books on your Top 10, Jessica. Some I've read and some I still need to check out. :) I love what you said about Stray being in Romance...I work at a bookstore and I complain about that all the time. Publishers don't seem to know how to categorize some books...although I think Rachel said her Shifters series was put in Romance because Romance sells. :)
ReplyDeleteI can see the sagging bookshelves.
ReplyDeleteMine is from bestselling novel "The Book Thief" here: http://pdworkman.com/book-thief-teasertuesday/
Ooh, love that teaser! I definitely want to check this one out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Great tease! And I love the top ... those are the same books that dragged me into Julie Kagawa, Richelle Mead, Rachel Vincent and Maria V Snyder.... too freaky!
ReplyDeleteThanx for visiting my TT
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
Ooh, I LOVE the Teaser! I am SO excited to read THE VANISHING SEASON! I really hope your enjoying it?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my TT @ Addicted Readers! :)
Good teaser. Any book that features characters with book obsessions gets my attention. ;-)
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I love that teaser. I have this waiting on my Kindle, and it makes me want to start reading it right now. I dream of a place where I can store my almost 1k books, other than bookshelves, bins, and bags all over the place. Next, I really liked your list. I remember seeking out more books on Vampires and stumbling on the VA series. I don't know how many were out by that point though, maybe 2? Thanks for visiting my TTT.
ReplyDeleteLisaILJ @ I’ll Tumble for YA
I loved your teaser! You just reminded me that I have to dig this one out of the TBR pile! LOL
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter made my list too, it's my favourite series of all time and the ultimate gateway book for me.I am still hoping to get to the VA series soon, I hear so many great things about that one! Great list, thanks for stopping by my TTT :)
