YES! I FINALLY saw Divergent! And I must say in simple words it was freaking awesome! Some of it did have to do with Theo James being Four! As you guys might know, I have a love for Theo ever since the last Underworld movie. And plus, we share the same birthday. And he's only 3 years older than me, so as I like to say, it's a realistic crush because you know he's not way older or younger than me!
Now it's been some years and MANY, MANY reads since I read Divergent, but I felt like it did rather well in staying true to the book. I don't think much got left out or added in unnecessarily.
I thought Shailene Woodley did a good job as Tris. I have to admit to being a tad leery of her. Just because of what I saw from commercials of that ABC teen pregnancy drama. I don't go for dramas, but she was a very good Tris I thought. And naturally, Theo was a delightful Four! He played the role very well, although I guess I had pictured Four a tad younger, but who cares...it's freaking Theo James!
The movie was well paced, there might have been a few viewpoints that got dragged a bit, but it's the way of the movie making. But I liked it. I liked reliving Tris's journey through Dauntless and surviving the initiation. Her trials and errors and of course her successes! The romance was sweet too. Just as it was in the book, a slow sweet buildup. There were a few chuckle moments, but not many. That's the way of the book too. So it was all good. I was surprised with how much I could remember about a few things and even though I wasn't shocked by some events I was still emotionally pulled along.
Due to some poor memory issues, I can't quite remember who's who. And also wondering what happened to Eric. I remember hating him and wishing him dead for what he put Tris through and I can't remember when he got his. If it was supposed to be Divergent or if it was Insurgent or heck, even Allegiant. Again, poor memory peeps!
All I gotta say is that I cannot wait to see Insurgent next year! This movie franchise is going to be one I follow religiously! If you've read Divergent or plan to, I highly recommend seeing this movie! It's going to be one to treasure for sure!
Overall Rating 5/5 stars
Great review of the movie, Jessica. I haven't seen it yet but hope to soon. It was only recently released here in Australia.
