Review--Last Rite by Lisa Desrochers

In this final installment of the thrilling, edgy Personal Demons series, the battle between Heaven and Hell has become critical, and Frannie Cavanaugh is right at the center of it.

With the help of the powerful angel Gabe and demon-turned-mortal Luc, Frannie has been able to stay one step ahead of the forces of Hell. But when the demons killed Frannie's best friend and destroyed her brother, they raised the stakes. If Frannie wants to keep her family and friends safe, she knows she has no choice but to go on the run.

Their best defense is the power Frannie has been struggling to master, but her attempts to hone her skill go horribly awry. If Frannie doesn't learn fast, the consequences could be devastating--even apocalyptic.

What happens when you can't outrun Hell...or trust the ones you love?

Wow! Lisa Desrochers does it again! Last Rite, the conclusion to the Personal Demons trilogy goes out with a wicked bang!

Not only do we pick up where we leave off again, but are in the middle of a chase! Frannie, Luc and Gabriel are running from the demons who are out to get Frannie to deliver to Lucifer. They escape to Florida since Gabe believes it'll be safe for Frannie there, but nothing goes as planned!

This time we get Gabe's point of view along side Frannie and Luc! It's about time too! I was wondering these past two books what he was thinking.

Both Gabe and Luc want to protect Frannie, but they both have their own ideas about going about that. Plus they are each fighting to keep their feelings about Frannie to themselves and trying to get over them. Gabe is afraid of being changed like Luc was, because he knows it might put him in Lucifer's hands. Luc actually wants Frannie to hate him again, so he can turn demon and protect her. All the while no one really pays attention and asks what Frannie wants.

Poor Frannie. She really does love both guys in different ways. It's hard on her because she really does seem to want Luc, but he is distant and cold while Gabe is warm and there for her. But so is another green-eyed angel that Frannie cannot place.

Frannie's world changes again this time. Nothing will ever be the same again. There is a purpose for everything it seems. It's hard to even give vague details, because I don't want to go into spoiler territory, but it seems that everyone has a purpose in this series and that is revealed towards the end during the epic showdown!

But the story doesn't end there! Oh no! Frannie is about to learn what her powers are capable of and what her destiny truly is. But I won't say any more than that!

Luc is definitely still my fave of the guys. I just love him! I guess because he went from the ultimate bad guy to someone who's caring, protective and sweet! Gabe is still an all around sweetie of course and I do like him, but not as much Luc!

The pacing in this one was like the others, good! There's still moments where you're wondering what's going to happen. But that really ends up just being the build up to the epic finale!

Frannie is as sassy as ever! She will definitely remain as one of my fave YA heroines! She's just so spunky and snarky! I can totally see her as being the teenage version of several of my fave adult heroines!

Overall rating 4/5 stars

  2. you're seriously on a roll reading this trilogy! I felt bad for Gabe. I really loved him, I hoped that he would have a better ending than that... I didn't like this last installment as much as the other books though.
