Review--Bled & Breakfast by Michelle Rowen

Fledgling vampire Sarah Dearly knew what she was getting into when she married master vampire Thierry de Bennicoeur. As an agent of the Ring, Thierry is sent all over the world to solve vampire crimes and keep them secret from humans. And now Sarah’s on the job with him—for better or worse.

Right after their wedding in Las Vegas, Sarah and Thierry get their next assignment: Three vampires have gone missing in Salem, Massachusetts, and they need to find out why. Their contact in Salem turns out to be a local lothario with a penchant for witches, but before he can help them, he suddenly goes up in smoke—leaving behind nothing but a stain on the ground and a seemingly impossible mystery.

Did a witchy ex-mistress cast a deadly spell, or is there something even more sinister happening to the vampires of Salem? Getting to the truth may require raising the undead, with a little help from the owners of a vampire-friendly bed and breakfast. But uncovering Salem’s darkest secrets may drag some of Thierry’s own past into the light.

Michelle Rowen's Bled & Breakfast continues vampires, Thierry and Sarah's story and this time, they're married (finally, apparently since I didn't read their first series!)! And the Ring has sent them on yet another task, this time in Salem where three master vampires have been reported missing.

Thierry and Sarah check into a quaint bed and breakfast place run by a young woman and her grandmother and Sarah soon learns how witches didn't really leave Salem at all and that Heather, (the young inn owner) is one of them! Thierry and Sarah are about to get their investigating groove on when suddenly, their vampire contact--who was filling them in on all the necessary details--is killed right before their eyes. And so begins yet another very twisted mystery! But this one far surpasses in the danger elements I think, than the last one!

Just as things start getting dicey, something happens to Thierry, yet again that puts him out of commission and the mystery-solving is up to Sarah alone.

I have to say this mystery was really twisted! So many witches of power are running about Salem, you never know who can be trusted and it seems like absolutely everyone has their own agenda!

With too many enemies and suspects to count, there's never a clear line as to who are evildoer is. In fact, there were several! That's how insanely twisted this mystery got, but I don't say that in a bad way. Not at all! I LOVED how twisted it was! It made the guessing and anticipation that much greater! And I was able to successfully guess who our bad guy was...one of them at least!

Since Thierry and Sarah were apart yet again, there wasn't much time for romance for the two. Especially considering this was their sort-of honeymoon. But what little bits we got to see of them together were sweet. But it's the mystery element that's all the more desirable in this story! Being a paranormal mystery, that's obviously the case!

We get more hints to Thierry's past and why the Ring may have wanted him so badly on their payroll. But yet, I still feel like we're missing something, but then that just puts us at level with Sarah and Thierry for that matter. But their wants play another role into this one as well, with an ending that may even set the course for the next book!

Yet another delightful paranormal mystery to add to the genre! Michelle Rowen can write it all apparently! And she continues to delight and please readers of all varieties! She is one author you do not want to miss out on!

  1. I've not tried a paranormal mystery, Jessica. But this one sounds like a winner. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
